UPI
UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is a digital payment system in India that lets you send or receive money instantly from one bank account to another using your phone.
- How it works: UPI connects your bank account to a UPI app (like BHIM, Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm). You pay using a UPI ID (like name@bank) or by scanning a QR code, without sharing your bank account number.
- Why it is fast: Payments happen in real time, 24×7, so money moves quickly between buyer and seller.
- Why it matters for production and business: Shops and businesses get paid quickly, can keep better records, and spend less time handling cash—making everyday work more efficient.
- Everyday example: A vegetable seller displays a QR code; a customer scans it and pays instantly. The seller can use that money to buy stock the same day.
- Useful distinction: UPI is a method of payment (the system). A wallet stores money inside an app, but UPI usually pays directly from your bank account.
By reducing the time and cost of payments, UPI acts like a modern “tool” that helps economic activities run more smoothly.
