A constituency is a defined geographic area whose voters elect one representative to a legislative body.

• India's 543 Lok Sabha constituencies mean 543 separate contests happen at once during a general election, each one deciding who represents that specific area in Parliament.
• Constituencies aren't just administrative boxes — their boundaries are periodically redrawn (a process called delimitation) to keep pace with population changes, so no constituency's voters end up with disproportionately more or less voting power than another's.
• Every voter belongs to exactly one constituency based on where they're registered, which is also why you must register in your own constituency and can't vote in someone else's on their behalf.
• The same idea scales down: a school class election, like Suryodaya School's Class Rep vote, works like a single, self-contained constituency where every student in the class is a voter.
